Scotty Irving is a spiritually-influenced noise artist. This photo was taken last Saturday at the Wherehouse in Winston-Salem, but I first met Scotty in 1999 when I did an article about him for the Eden Daily News, his hometown paper. I have no idea what the folks in Eden must have thought of this fellow who flings himself around the stage, bashing on various pieces of percussion while eerie electronic howls wail from the PA speakers. Not exactly "Amazing Grace," I'll tell you that.

Darryl Hunt
Darryl Hunt spent 18 years in prison for a rape and murder he didn't commit before DNA evidence freed him. I took this picture for the cover of Yes!Weekly in Greensboro.
